HP OMEN 15. 6"
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi community, I have this issue of losing the C:\ partition after a system restore. Fortunately (or not) I have the entire \preload\ folder from the D:recovery partition saved. How can I rebuild my system with these files? Any possibility? Many thanks in advance!!!

Hello @Stratos4x

Are you perhaps asking if you can recover what you had in your previous C drive with the 😄 recovery partition? Because it doesnt work that way. A Recovery only reinstalls the operating system back to the way it came from the factory. What ever files you had after that will be wiped.

If you created your HP USB recovery, it can be used to reinstall Windows and reinstall the C drive. But it will only be returned to factory status. F11 at startup will also access the Recovery partition.

To save your personal files and programs installed after you purchased the laptop, you would have to have created an image backup with third party software like Macrium or Aomei backupper software.

Is this what you are asking?

Hi Photoray002! thanks for your reply.
Yes, I wanted to restore the laptop to the factory state, I have already backed up my important files and wiped the entire disk. The 😧 recovery partition currently doesn't exists in the disk, I have copied the files to a external drive. My intention is to restore the computer back to factory settings with these files if possible. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Oh OK.

If you have a recovery partition in tact, you can access it by rapidly tapping F11 at startup.

This will take you  to the trouble shooting option and you can navigate to the recovery from there.

But if the partition is not accessible anymore, and you dont have the USB HP Media created, you will have to do one of two things.

Either install the Win 10 OS directly from Microsoft with the Media Creation Tool  and then access your drivers from HP directly from the website, or you can order the HP recovery media from HP for a fee.

If you can tell me the model or product number of your Omen, I can point you to the drivers page and such.

Yes, sure, the model is 1GX84LA / CE004LA.

Also, I have contacted HP support, they opened me a case to send the laptop to their labs (still in warranty). I can do the reinstall myself, but I think is better to have the original system and preloaded programs, just in case I plan to sell this computer in the future.

Thanks in advance!
