Hello, I recently bought a HP Pavillion laptop
Processor:AMD Ryzen 5 3550H with Radeon Vega 8 Integrated graphics
Memory: 8GB
Dedicated Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 4GB VRAM
So I was checking Task Manager and I found that I can use only 5.9GB of RAM and 2.1 GB is reserved for the integrated GPU.
due to this I am getting less usable RAM and most of the reserved RAM is not even getting used. Since there is a the dedicated GPU which is used for most thing. I get that the integrated GPU is still required for the windows GUI and various other operations but I am sure 2.1GB is too much being reserved for it. Is there any way I can reduce the reserved RAM? I have tried checking in the BIOS but the required options are locked away in HP

Hi:
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to decrease the amount of hardware reserved memory.
HP released this document a while back, which explains the memory shortage...

This seems to only apply to models with AMD Ryzen 3xxx processors.
Info on Microsoft PlayReady.

You may want to consider adding another 8 GB of memory in the empty memory slot.

Thanks for that, Upgrading RAM is the only thing that can be done now. If i upgrade to 16GB will it reserve more memory?
And as you said it happens in Ryzen 5 3000 series, that is it doesn't apply to any other ryzen CPUs?

You're very welcome.
Yes, if you need more memory, you will need to add more memory.
It appears that it applies only to the Ryzen processors that are Ryzen 3, 5, 7-3xxx series.
My notebook has a Ryzen 5 4500U and there is no memory 'tax,' other than the 512 MB used for the onboard Vega graphics.
I also believe that if you add an 8 GB memory chip, the amount of reserved memory will be pretty much as it is now (- 2 GB).
It definitely won't go to - 4 GB.
