PAVILION 15-CX0172TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Will be buying tomorrow the HP Pavilion 15-CX0172TX model in Thailand .

I want to buy an 240GB NVMe with it and install and run Windows on it and use the 1TB HDD that comes with it only for storage.

My question is what SSD/NVMe drive models are compatible with this laptop?

Hello @AchDevil

Your model is compatible with both Sata and NVMe SSDs, so you could pretty much add what ever M.2 2280 SSD you wish.

I personally recommend either Samsung or Crucial drives.

Here is your manual if you need info on accessing the drive. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985643

When you install Windows, I would disconnect the HDD first, then  reconnect it afterward. Don't wipe the HDD until you verify the SSD installation works without issues.

Thanks!

This is actually my options there:

Samsung 970 Evo plus

Samsung 970 Evo

WD Black SN750

WD Black Gen3

Which one should i buy to get it work as OS drive and the HDD as storage?

Well know that on that laptop, because the M.2 port is compatible with both kinds of drive, that the NVMe speed will be slower (3x2) instead of (3x4) because two PCIe lanes are shared for Sata. But it will still be faster than Sata.

If the price is not much more for the NVMe drive, its still worth getting the NVMe drive. Both the Western Digital and Samsung are good name brands. I would go with the Samsung Evo myself, considering the cost is not that much more than the Western Digital.

Alright.

Does it matter if i take the 970 or the Plus version?

is there any difference besides the small speed difference?

It all looks good on paper, but I highly doubt you will physically see any difference in performance.

Its just a matter of preference at this point.
