Screen, all lights included external devices' flickering even a little stress comes across. It was flickering less at the start but now when gaming it becomes impossible to operate the laptop. I ran all tests / driver uptades; checked all previous driver uptades. Nothing helps, i turned off hibernation with "powercfg.exe -h off" thinking it was a sensor issue causing hibernation but it did not help too. And it isn't even get that hot. Everything is as usual as were. Help me please. I have warranty, is only choice to send it to service?
edit: maxing fans from hp hub helps a little bit but not much
edit 2: it sometimes changes running apps' resolution??? i thought maybe it can give away wy this happens

Hi @emmyr
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 is experiencing severe screen flickering and resolution changes under stress, which could be related to power delivery, GPU instability, or display driver conflicts. Since you've already tried driver updates and power settings, let's explore deeper fixes:
1. Check GPU Power Limits & TGP Settings
- Some HP Victus models limit GPU power dynamically, which can cause flickering when the system struggles to maintain stable power.
- Use NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Power Management Mode and set it to Prefer Maximum Performance.
- If available, check TGP settings in BIOS or HP OMEN Gaming Hub.
2. Disable Adaptive Sync / G-Sync
- If your laptop has G-Sync or Adaptive Sync, try disabling it:
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Display → Set up G-Sync.
- Uncheck Enable G-Sync and restart.
3. Check for Display Driver Conflicts
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters → Right-click NVIDIA GPU → Uninstall device (check "Delete driver software").
- Restart and reinstall the latest driver from NVIDIA’s official site.
4. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics for Hardware Issues
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly → Select F2 (HP Diagnostics).
- Run Display & GPU tests to check for hardware faults.
5. Adjust Windows Display Settings
- Go to Settings → System → Display.
- Set Refresh Rate to 144Hz (or the highest available).
- Disable Dynamic Resolution Scaling in games.
6. Check for Power Delivery Issues
- If external devices flicker too, it could indicate power instability.
- Try using a different power adapter or plugging directly into a wall socket.
7. Consider a BIOS Update
- HP may have released a BIOS update that improves stability—check HP’s support page for updates.
Since maxing fans helps slightly, it suggests thermal throttling or power instability. Let me know what happens!

1- I set it to Prefer Maximum Performance, nothing changed
- I cant find anything about TGP
2- There is no Display tab at Nvidia Control Panel just 3D settings and Video
3-I did this before too and now, nothing
4-same with 3, everything passes tests. says no problem for everything.
5-My refresh rate is set to 144hz already. ( Maybe this part is integral at this problem, at past i struggled with keeping refresh rate at 144hz it was switching back to 60hz. I messed with a lot of settings while trying to solve that and eventually did fix it. Maybe i broke something along the way?)
-i dont think any setting change in games gonna solve this cuz it happens even i dont game
6-Mouse lights, laptop's keyboard and power button's lights and screen all flicker. But yes mouse as an external device also flickers.
- I am plugged to wall all times, and i use my original adaptor.
7- HP diagnostic and help apps all say everything is up to date.
When laptop stress for a little long time, flickering gets too bad it just goes black and unresponsive. I manage to force shutdown with trying a lot. And it doesnt even gets fixed when i restart, i have to wait some hours to fix it. I didnt use it for a day and it was very okay when there was no stress just browser. But after a time it started again, i tried to open a game and back to the square 1. Maxing fans doesnt help either i guess. I am not sure what causes this or what helps at this moment. It also flickers there is no open apps at all too. just seems random sometimes... help...

Hi @emmyr
It sounds like your laptop is experiencing severe flickering issues, affecting not just the screen but also external devices like your mouse and keyboard lights. Since you've already tried adjusting performance settings, updating drivers, and running diagnostics, let's explore deeper troubleshooting steps.
Possible Causes
- Power Supply Issues: Since external devices flicker too, it could be a power regulation problem.
- Overheating & Thermal Throttling: The fact that the laptop becomes unresponsive after stress suggests thermal shutdown.
- Faulty GPU or Display Connection: If the flickering persists even when idle, it could be a hardware issue.
Advanced Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check for Power Supply Issues
- Try using a different power adapter (even if yours is original).
- If possible, test with a different wall outlet.
- If your laptop has a removable battery, try running it without the battery (just on AC power).
2. Disable Panel Self Refresh (Intel GPUs)
- Open Intel Graphics Command Center.
- Go to Display → Power Settings.
- Disable Panel Self Refresh (this can cause flickering on battery power).
3. Adjust Refresh Rate & Display Settings
- Open Settings → System → Display → Advanced Display Settings.
- Ensure Refresh Rate is set to 144Hz.
- Try lowering it to 120Hz or 60Hz temporarily to see if flickering stops.
4. Test External Monitor
- Connect an external display via HDMI or USB-C.
- If the external monitor does not flicker, the issue is likely with your laptop screen or internal display connection.
5. Run Safe Mode & Check for Software Conflicts
- Boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Enable Safe Mode).
- If flickering stops in Safe Mode, a background app or driver may be causing the issue.
6. Check for Loose Display Cable (Hardware Step)
- If comfortable, open the laptop and check the display cable connection.
- A loose or damaged LVDS/eDP cable can cause flickering.
Let me know if you need further guidance!
I know dealing with flickering can be frustrating, but we’ll get this sorted.
Thanks,
Hawks_Eye

Hi @emmyr,
Welcome to the HP support community.
Since @Hawks_Eye is not available at the moment, I (@VikramTheGreat) will be taking over your case from here.
Thanks for the update, and I hear your frustration loud and clear. You went as far as formatting your laptop, things looked promising at first, and then the screen flickering returned after playing more games. That’s a gut punch after putting in all that effort, and you deserve a stable system that works out of the box.
