When i turn on the laptop from sleep in minute or two the screen freeze the mouse still moves on the screen but the screen completely freezes i noticed it majorly when plugged in, and after waiting few minutes the latop unfreezes automatically but after that also it continues to freeze in between for maybe around 1-2 min sometimes it unfreezes autmatically or sometimes i have to hard restart it with the power button. also the lid is unresponsive after the setting are correct and checked twice here it means after closing the lid the laptop doesn't closes itself neither the screen. is remains on and consumes power.

Hi @Akshansh47

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since the system is freezing shortly after waking from Sleep, the lid-close action is not responding, and the behavior is more noticeable when the charger is connected, this points toward a power management, graphics, or chipset communication issue rather than a display panel problem. I appreciate the detailed information you've already shared.

Please try the following checks:

Update BIOS and HP Drivers

  • Open HP Support Assistant and check for the latest BIOS, Intel chipset, Intel Management Engine, and graphics driver updates.
  • Install all recommended updates and restart the notebook.

Disable Fast Startup

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select "Choose what the power buttons do."
  • Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
  • Clear the checkbox for "Turn on fast startup."
  • Save the changes and restart.

Reset Power Plans

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select your active power plan.
  • Restore the plan to its default settings.
  • Ensure Sleep and Lid Close settings are configured correctly for both Battery and Plugged In modes.

Check Graphics Power Management

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Display Adapters.
  • Right-click each graphics adapter and select Properties.
  • Under Power Management (if available), clear any setting that allows Windows to turn off the device to save power.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Press the Power button and immediately tap F2 repeatedly.
  • Run:
    • System Tests > Extensive Test
    • Component Tests > Memory
    • Component Tests > Storage

Test Sleep Function

  • Temporarily set "When I close the lid" to Sleep.
  • Close the lid for a minute and reopen it.
  • Check whether the freezing behavior continues and whether the lid action works properly.

Perform a Clean Shutdown Test

  • Shut down the notebook completely.
  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Start the system and monitor whether the freezing occurs before opening applications.

If HP Hardware Diagnostics reports any failure ID or if the freezing continues after the above checks, please share:

  • Current BIOS version
  • Graphics adapter model(s) shown in Device Manager
  • Whether the issue started after a Windows update, BIOS update, or driver update

This will help us focus on the most relevant troubleshooting path.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
