So a few days ago, I plugged my computer into my TV with an HDMI cable to watch a movie (which I have done many times before with no problems) and noticed that the screen of my laptop was black. No cursor or any indication that it was on except for the sounds of the fan. Upon adjusting the sceen a little, the image of my login screen would pop up now and again, but would never stay for more than a blink of the eye. I was dismayed until I realized that the TV was showing my screen, so I figured it was just throwing the image up there instead of also showing it on my laptop as it usually does. Everything was fine until I unplugged my laptop and the image did not return. After some internet searching, I tried using Window button + ctrl + shift + B, which worked initially but soon my screen began to flicker and went black again (this method has not worked since). Plugging my computer back into the TV showed that the computer itself was still working and would show my screen up there, but would not show it on the laptop itself. As of a few hours ago, plugging it into the TV no longer works, and as a student, I need to have access to my computer in order to get work done. I was hoping that performing a factory reset on the computer would fix the issue if it was a code issue, but I can't do that without seeing what is on the screen and there does not appear to be a button for it. I am hoping that someone else has had this issue and would know how to fix it, because I really do not want to have to buy a new laptop after only getting 2 years out of my current one. Thank you in advance for any help people can offer.

Thank you for replying,
After reviewing your post thoroughly, I see that you have exhausted all possible troubleshooting steps and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue.
In this scenario, I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure with the notebook.
I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you are having issues with the notebook display. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did you check for any physical damage on the notebook?
Are you able to get a display when you connect to the TV?
Did you try to update the Bios and graphics card drivers?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Next thing, If you are able to get the display working when connecting to TV, I would suggest you try to uninstall the display drivers.
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Alternatively, I would suggest you could try to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Notebook PCs - Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 10, 😎
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!

Thanks for your quick response. As to your initial questions:
- I recently (2 weeks ago) had the fans replaced as the bearings had begun to give out.
- There is no visable damage to the exterior of the notebook.
- I can no longer get a display when connecting to the TV. It gives the same message as if there was nothing connected at all.
- The Bios and graphics cards are both updated.
As for the hard reset, this was hard to do without being able to see the screen but I was eventually able to do it, which did not help. Then i discovered something. If i push down hard, and I mean very hard, on the area right above the power button, the display will work (NOTE: only works about 60% of the time). However, once I let go, the screen will almost immediatly flicker and go dark again. For obvious reasons, I cannot be pressing down on that spot for long periods of time without losing the use of one of my hands and possibly causing more damage to the computer. Doing this, I was able to uninstall the display drivers, of which there were two, and reset the computer. This again had no effect. I also already had the HP Support Assistant and would check weekly to make sure everything was updated. The last thing I did was to look at the support document and do as many of the steps as I could, none of which worked.
