Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T08AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Good evening.

I own a Victus Gaming Laptop 16-r0013sl (8F219EA).

About a month ago, I encountered an issue with the GeForce Experience program, which would only open as a black screen with no interaction possible. Other programs, like OBS Studio, presented issues such as the inability to display previews, with logs showing errors like:
18:29:45.717: device_swapchain_create (D3D11): Failed to create swap chain (887A0005) 18:29:45.717: Device Removed Reason: 00000000 18:29:45.717: obs_display_init: Failed to create swap chain

Or programs like Adobe Photoshop, which displayed errors such as: "Camera Raw requires graphics acceleration to edit photos." I should note that various games using the Nvidia graphics card were functioning perfectly without any glitches or issues.

I contacted Nvidia support, and following their instructions, I tried multiple times to reinstall the Nvidia graphics card drivers and also those for the integrated Intel card, even attempting downgrades. I used Nvidia’s Cleanup Tool, but without success. I reinstalled the GeForce program and tried numerous other methods suggested by their support, but without a resolution. Eventually, I formatted the laptop and reinstalled Windows, which finally resolved every single issue. I also sent the Windows system logs to Nvidia, but they couldn’t find a solution other than formatting.

A month after this resolution, I found myself facing the same problem, with the GeForce app opening only as a black screen with no interaction, and programs like OBS and Adobe Photoshop giving the same error codes. Nvidia has now advised me to install the new Nvidia App in beta, which, unlike GeForce, does open and function; however, the GPU issue still persists across all other programs, even after updating the drivers, etc.

On Nvidia’s Discord, a user recommended using a cleanup program called AutoDDU, which worked perfectly, eliminating every issue. However, now the problem is becoming more frequent, and I don’t have the time to keep using AutoDDU, which involves a lengthy process to clean the PC of drivers.

I would like to ask if there is a possible solution that doesn’t involve another reformat or sending the laptop in for repairs, as I need it for work.

Thank you for your attention to my case and for your help.

Best regards,
Benedetto.

Hi @Benny_21

First check the integrity of the windows system files.

In windows search type CMD, in the result click run as administrator and type (One at a time and then enter)

sfc /scannow

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

then restart windows and check.

Hi @Resistencia, thank you for your help.

After running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth a log CBS.log was created, with some errors reported.

The log file is a long page, and I'm not sure if this could help, but maybe these are some errors I found:

There could be other error I didn't spot in the log file.

The other two commands Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth reported no problems.

After restarting the problem persits.

there is a .wim file that is saved in the system and these tests check that it matches with that file, if it does not match and continues to give that error in another test that you do then you have to reinstall windows.

I repeated the tests, but this time they didn't show any error.

Also, I already reinstalled windows after the first time this problem with GPU manifested.

Is it possible that the problem is somewhere else?

Small update @Resistencia
Going to Device Manager and expanding Display Adapters, I tried to see the event list for Nvidia GPU, finding some errors.
If you wish, I can share .evtx file.

Otherwise, here's all the list in .txt (sorry for italian language):

Those are not errors, it says status 0, that is, no errors in the installation.

repeat the test

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

and verify that you have no error if you have error you can be the same disk that is damaged and when you reinstall windows the files are damaged again, check for virus also

Hi,

I repeated the tests but now there are no errors anymore.

I checked for virus in several way but it should be clear.

Should I proceed again with AutoDDU?

HP Recommended

I do not recommend using these cleaning programs, because it can cause more problems than solutions, check if you have updates in the support page of the BIOS and the graphic card.

- if I can help solve your question or issue, please click on ACCEPT AS SOLUTION or click the YES button if my answer was helpful.

Unfortunately no bios updates (I did it months before the problem arose) and already upgraded nvidia drivers, but the problem is still there

The warranty expired few weeks ago, so I don't know which is the best option. I tried everything, but I cannot everytime reinstall windows of course.
