Hi, I have this question about my laptop omen 17.3db1006na

it has this skhynix801 something ssd installed by factory and also thermal pads I thought to myself to buy an ssd and I bought a heatsink 990 pro ssd for myself(was cheaper than heatsinkless) and I want to install my os there and use it as a primary drive, how do i make sure it all runs smoothly(os transition) and there is also a thermal pad like metal thing on the ssd slots, should I rather put heatsink ssd without the metal therm pad or unscrew the heatsink and use the factory metal part of the laptop for heat reduction, because if installing both of these they wont fit together.

Hi:

Would there be enough clearance to install the Samsung 990 Pro with the heatsink it came with?

Usually there isn't.

If there is enough clearance between the SSD with the heatsink installed and the bottom cover, you should be able to use the drive as is without the HP thermal enclosure.

If not, and if you can safely remove the heatsink the drive came with without damaging the drive, I recommend you use the HP factory thermal enclosure to install the drive.

Below is the link to the service manual:

I will test it tomorrow whether or not it fits, but if it does fit, I just wanted to know whether heatsink proves more effective than the hp factor thermal pad that came with the laptop.

Also, do you know if primary and secondary slots of ssds are different in idk read speed connectivity or maybe heat distribution. Should i put samsung ssd in primary slot after i have os on it transferred and put my factory ssd on secondary. Or it doesnt much matter.

I would imagine since the 990 Pro's heatsink was engineered to work with that drive, it may perform slightly better than putting the 990 in the HP thermal enclosure.

But the only way you would ever know for sure would be to test the drive with the heatsink on (if it will fit) and with the heatsink removed and installed in the thermal enclosure, and I doubt you would want to do all of that work for the sake of probably no more than a 5C difference.

I would be putting the drive in the primary slot since it most likely has better read/write speeds than the model SSD HP installed.

To the best of my knowledge, both slots are PCIe Gen 4x4.

This is also indicated in chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual:
