OMEN by HP Laptop 15-ce0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am a pretty heavy gamer playing mostly World of Warcraft and every time I try and play my computer makes this loud grinding/ whirring sound. It's not limited to video games, it's when I use any application. When I'm close out of the applications or prior to opening one it's relatively quiet. It goes on for seemingly no reason and it just started about a month ago. The device isn't that old, I've only had it for a little less than two years.

I've tried to reinstall the chip drivers and the bios like it was suggested in other threads, but it hasn't worked. It sounds like it's a fan from under the left hand side of the key board. I'd like to do whatever I can before spending any money to have it looked at. Is there anything else that I can try?

Hello @orlystanleh

Sounds like a fan getting noisy. What are you temperatures while gaming? If you open the Omen Command Center, you can see the temps. If you can game while in Windowed Mode, you can see the temps while you game. Just making sure its not getting too hot.

Otherwise, the only other thing I could suggest is that the vents inside are possibly getting covered with dust.

You could try using canned air, but ultimately it works best to take the back off, open the shroud and clean them right.

If its not dusty, then the fan might need to be replaced.

The part numbers for the fans are...

929456-001 FAN, RIGHT - with thermal pad from supplier

929455-001 FAN, LEFT

HP does stock them at the moment. Let me know what you find.

Thank you very much for your help, your directions were easy to follow and I really appreciate it. I reinstalled the drivers like you said and dusted the fan. The computer wasn't getting too hot, around 75°c while playing for 30 minutes.  I think that I'll have to get the fan replaced.  Thank you again!!
