I bought a hp victus a week ago. I've noticed every time I unplug my laptop, or turn off my charger, the laptop stutters for a couple seconds. Like the audio stutters and the screen freezes too. Just for like 1-2 seconds. Should I be concerned? Or is this normal? Please help!

Hi @y1ifan

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

When you disconnect your laptop from external AC power, the system automatically transitions to battery power, triggering several immediate hardware and power management adjustments. According to HP documentation, unplugging the charger causes the system to:

  • Adjust Display Settings: The display brightness automatically dims to conserve battery power.
  • Modify Processor Performance: Processor speed and CPU clock rates are reduced or throttled to lower energy consumption.
  • Switch Power Plans: Windows changes hardware and power management profiles to balance energy savings and system performance.

If the stutter becomes a full system lockup where Windows stops responding entirely, HP recommends the following steps:

  • Run Hardware Diagnostics: Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (via UEFI or Windows) to test the AC adapter, battery, and internal hardware components.
  • Update BIOS and System Drivers: Check for pending updates using HP Support Assistant or Windows Update to ensure your power management software is current.
  • Review Windows Power Options: Open Power Options in the Windows Control Panel to verify or customize how plan settings behave when switching between plugged-in and battery modes.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: If the system freezes completely, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds with the charger unplugged to clear temporary memory.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
