Hi, ordered an HP 15-dc1044na last night and now concerned that fan noise at low usage may be a bit too lud for me (going on some other reviews). I believe that this laptop uses discrete graphics at all times but it does have a UHD 630 onboard graphics. HP told me that I could use the NVidia control panel to switch between the two but don;t know if this is possible or the best way to get fan noise down while using it for light tasks. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

Hello @Mottok76
I'm sorry but who ever you talked to was misinformed. Your model has an RTX 2060 graphics card.
In order to use the built in UHD 630 graphics built into the CPU, the laptop would have to use Optimus (switchable graphics).
It does not have Optimus, so it will only run on the dedicated 2060 graphics all the time.
The only way to lower the fan noise from the fan speed would be to set the Omen Command Center performance mode to Comfort Mode. This will help some, mostly when at idle usage.

Many thanks and sorry for the delayed reply but this is my fourth attempt, didn't realise there were issues posting with mobile devices. Got the laptop last night and was initially worried about the level of fan noise but have changed to power save mode and most of the time it's just a gentle fan noise. Obviously it does get louder at times e.g. installing something etc. Still deciding whether or not to keep it but as the specs are so good at this price point I can;t find anything else that can match it. Anyone know of any other laptops with similar specs but have optimus or MUX switching? Many thanks for the reply.

The previous generation of that series (dc0xxx) had some that did, but only on the versions with a GTX 1050 or 1050ti. If an Omen has a larger card, no switchable graphics are included. The new series dc1xxx does not have it at all.
