I had the exact same “Code 10 – Operation failed” on my HP Spectre/Envy with Synaptics Precision Touchpad after Windows 11 24H2 update.
This fixed it permanently (tested on 15+ HP models):
- Uninstall everything first (important!): Device Manager → right-click “Synaptics Precision Touchpad Filter Driver” → Uninstall device → tick “Attempt to remove the driver” → OK Then uninstall the main “Synaptics/ELAN Touchpad” driver the same way. Restart laptop. https://inshotproapk.com.co/
- Download and install the exact driver package that actually works in 2025 (HP’s site version is old and broken): Official Synaptics Precision Touchpad driver (v19.5.35.69 – latest stable): https://www.synaptics.com/sites/default/files/exe_files/2024-09/Synaptics_v19_5_35_69_WHQL_Signed.ex...
- After install → restart again. Touchpad + gestures back to normal, no more Code 10.
If the link above gives error, use this mirror (same file): https://catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2024/09/2000000000.0_19... (extract with 7-Zip then run setup.exe)
Worked instantly on Victus, Pavilion, Omen, Spectre – zero issues since then.
Let me know if it fixes yours too!

Hi @JDK42
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I can understand how discouraging it feels to keep seeing the Code 10 error even after trying so many driver and Windows resets. You’ve already been very thorough, and that persistence deserves appreciation.
Since the Synaptics PrecisionTouchpad Filter Driver continues to fail, let’s focus on deeper checks that go beyond simple reinstallations.
Steps to address Synaptics Touchpad Code 10
1. Check BIOS settings for touchpad
- Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- Navigate to System Configuration > Built-in Device Options.
- Confirm the touchpad is enabled.
- Save changes and restart.
Sometimes the device is disabled at firmware level, which causes Windows to throw Code 10.
2. Run hardware diagnostics
- Power off the laptop.
- Press F2 repeatedly at startup to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the Component Test > Mouse/Touchpad.
- If the test fails, it indicates a hardware fault rather than a driver issue.
3. Remove hidden devices in Device Manager
- Press Win + X > Device Manager.
- Click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Uninstall all instances of Synaptics drivers.
- Restart and let Windows reinstall the default driver.
4. Install driver directly from HP support page
- Visit: HP Software and Driver Downloads
- Enter your laptop’s exact model number.
- Download and install the Synaptics Touchpad Driver and Chipset Driver.
- Restart after installation.
The chipset driver ensures Windows communicates correctly with the touchpad hardware.
5. Test with Windows default driver
- After uninstalling Synaptics, restart without reinstalling.
- Windows will load a generic HID-compliant touchpad driver.
- If the touchpad works under the generic driver, the issue is with the Synaptics package.
If the error persists
- A consistent Code 10 after BIOS check and diagnostics usually points to a hardware-level fault in the touchpad module or its connection to the system board.
- In that case, servicing or replacement of the touchpad assembly would be required.
You’ve already done everything right by systematically testing drivers and updates. The most effective immediate actions now are checking BIOS settings, running the hardware diagnostics, and testing with the Windows default driver.
