Hello,
My victus, whose warranty I extended to 3 years, reaches temperatures of up to 95-100 degrees while it didn't do so before. In addition, performance has significantly decreased. I have done a clean reinstallation of Windows several times, but I have not solved the problem. I have opened a call to HP support. But I have been told that it is normal and that as long as it does not turn off there are no problems. I have been told that when the temperature rises the PC has a mechanism that lowers the CPU speed. The problem is that compared to when it was new, performance is almost halved and it is a little noisier. What could it be?
Salve,
Ho aperto una chiamata all'assistenza HP.

Hi @einst, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Your Victus went from a gaming beast to feeling like it’s running a marathon with a backpack full of bricks—definitely not what you signed up for, especially after extending the warranty! While it's true that your laptop has built-in thermal protection, those scorching 95-100°C temps paired with a noticeable performance dip are worth investigating. Let’s break it down and see what might be going on.
It sounds like your HP Victus laptop is experiencing thermal throttling, which is significantly affecting its performance. While it's true that most modern laptops reduce CPU speed when temperatures get too high, 95-100°C is too hot, especially if it wasn't reaching these temperatures before.
Possible Causes & Fixes:
Dust Buildup in Cooling System
- Over time, dust accumulates in the cooling system, blocking airflow and causing higher temperatures.
Fix: - Clean the vents and fans using compressed air.
- If possible, open the laptop and clean the cooling system manually.
Thermal Paste Degradation
- After a year or more, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heat sink dries out, reducing heat dissipation.
Fix: - Reapply thermal paste (use a high-quality paste like Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut or Arctic MX-6).
Fan Malfunction or Inefficiency
- If the fan isn't running properly or spinning at lower speeds, it won’t cool the system efficiently.
Fix: - Use HWMonitor or HWiNFO to check fan speed.
- Run HP Diagnostics (F2 at startup) to check for cooling system issues.

Software or BIOS Issues
- A BIOS update or Windows update may have altered power management settings, leading to higher temps.
Fix: - Check HP's website for a BIOS update.
- Set Windows Power Plan to Balanced (instead of High Performance).
Undervolting (Reducing CPU Voltage)
- Undervolting can reduce temperature and improve performance without affecting stability.
Fix: - Use ThrottleStop or Intel XTU (for Intel CPUs) to reduce CPU voltage by -100mV.
(For AMD CPUs, Ryzen Master may help.)
Background Processes Using CPU
- Check Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) for processes consuming CPU power.
Fix: - Disable unnecessary startup apps in Task Manager > Startup.
Your Victus should be a powerhouse, not a space heater! If these steps don’t bring back its former glory, it might be time to push back on support, especially since you've got that extended warranty. Let me know how it goes—I want to make sure your gaming sessions (or whatever you use it for) run as smoothly as they should! 🔥💨

Thank you for your thorough response. I have done almost all the steps you gave, it seems like it is the thermal paste. But support told me it is not and that if I send it in for repair they will not check the thermal paste. I am in a dead end.
