Hi @DIFFO,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue where your Micro SD card with an SD adapter is showing as overwrite protected after reinstalling Windows. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

1. Check Physical Write Protection Switch

  1. Physical Switch: Micro SD cards sometimes have a physical switch on the side that can toggle write protection. Ensure this switch is in the unlocked position (usually toward the contacts).

2. Modify Registry Settings (Windows)

  1. Registry Editor:
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    • Navigate to the following key:
    • If you don't see StorageDevicePolicies, you may need to create it:
      • Right-click on Control, select New > Key, and name it StorageDevicePolicies.
    • Inside StorageDevicePolicies, right-click on an empty area, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it WriteProtect.
    • Double-click WriteProtect, set its value to 0, and click OK.
    • Restart your computer and check if the write protection is removed.

3. Use Diskpart Utility (Command Prompt)

  1. Diskpart:
    • Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open Command Prompt as administrator.
    • In Command Prompt, type:
    • Close Command Prompt and check if the write protection is removed.

4. Format the SD Card

  1. Formatting:
    • If the above steps don't work, you may need to format the SD card to remove write protection. Be aware that formatting will erase all data on the SD card.
    • Right-click on the SD card drive in File Explorer, select Format, choose the file system and allocation unit size, and click Start.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the formatting process.

Additional Tips:

Try a Different Computer: Sometimes, write protection issues can be specific to certain computers or card readers. Try using a different computer or card reader to see if the issue persists.

vbnet

diskpart list disk select disk X   (Replace X with the number corresponding to your SD card) attributes disk clear readonly

mathematica

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
