OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-k0000 (665B3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When I first got it the performance was very good. Got over 55fps on max settings in some very demanding games or a stable 60fps on High. Almost a year later I can barely get 40fps and stuttering on Low with upscaling. I really don't know what happened. Note in case this matters in Display Adapter it shows Intel Iris Xe. I can't remember if that was always the case. Please help.

Hi @TheFervidActor,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop is experiencing a significant drop in performance, which can be frustrating. Given that you're seeing Intel Iris Xe listed in Display Adapter, this could indicate that your laptop might be defaulting to the integrated graphics rather than using the dedicated NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU.

Here are a few steps you can take to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue:

Check GPU Usage:

  • Right-click on the Taskbar and select Task Manager.
  • Go to the Performance tab and check if the GPU being used is the NVIDIA RTX 3060 or the Intel Iris Xe.
  • If the Intel Iris Xe is being used, you need to switch to the NVIDIA GPU.

Switch to NVIDIA GPU:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. If you don't have it, you may need to download it from the NVIDIA website or Microsoft Store.
  • In the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Manage 3D Settings.
  • Under the Global Settings tab, set the Preferred graphics processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
  • Additionally, go to the Program Settings tab and set specific games or applications to use the NVIDIA GPU.

Update Drivers:

  • NVIDIA Graphics Drivers:
    • Go to the NVIDIA website and download the latest drivers for the RTX 3060.
    • Install the drivers and restart your laptop.
  • Intel Graphics Drivers:
    • Visit the Intel website and download the latest drivers for the Intel Iris Xe graphics.
    • Install the drivers and restart your laptop.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any updates. Install any available updates.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  • Ensure your laptop is set to High Performance rather than Power Saver or Balanced.

Run a Benchmark Test:

  • Use a benchmarking tool like 3DMark or Unigine Heaven to test your GPU performance and compare it to expected results for the RTX 3060.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Ensure that no background applications are consuming resources and affecting your game performance.

Clean the Laptop:

  • Dust and debris can affect cooling efficiency. Make sure the laptop's cooling vents are clean and that the fans are working properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
