My charger for my laptop recently stopped working. And and tried to find a replacement, and I needed one quickly. I tried four different chargers, 1 HP smart adapter but only 65W (Had one at home), and three universal chargers (120W).

Sadly, none of them work. I only get the message "plugged in, not charging" (except the the 65W, then it's a message that it's too low).

However, they can charge the laptop while it is turnes off, but as soon as it's on, it stops working.

From what I can tell; HP Omen laptops cannot use non-original chargers. Is this true?

The charger I need is not available for retail purchase and I have to IMPORT a new one from a surplus electronics collector like I am some sort of antiquarian...its also needlessly expensive.

Is there some sort of work around or do I have to get an original charger?

No other problems with the laptop.

Dont know how we could help you as you didn't say which OMEN you have???

Can you give us the product number? Its located in the HP Support Assistant and also usually printed on the bottom of the laptop.

What ever you have, you most likely don't have a powerful enough charger. Most of the Omen laptops if seen use 150w or higher.

Yes you can purchase third party chargers, but "sometimes" they wont work. You can buy a third party charger and if it says its compatible with HP, your chances are good that it will work. I have seen others who have bought third party chargers for the Omen, but they were specifically labeled as HP compatible. So that is what I would recommend.

It's a hp omen 15-ax002no. And the specs say I need a 120W charger, and the old charger was a 120W

The part number for the 120w adapter is 710415-001

But HP is no longer supplying that version. They are only selling the 150W version now, but that will be OK to use on your setup also. The cost is pretty much the same for either.

The part number for the 150w adapter is 776620-001

You can look up a replacement for either of those "numbers" from a third party seller in your area. It will need to be HP compatible for the Omen series.  Or you might be able to order direct from HP if its available for your country.

open the link above and it will require you to enter your country first. Then you can enter the 150W part number in the search box.

That is the best I can do for you.
