I recently got a new laptop (HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000). The main issue I'm having with this laptop is that it utilizes a new feature called "precision touchpad" that streamlines the touchpad to make it suited for office use / general use. I use the trackpad to play games and whenever I click the touchpad (right or left click) the mouse freezes in place. This along side the mouse acceleration causes the speed to constantly reset to 0 (pixels a second?) while needing to accelerate to normal speed again.
The old laptop that I had, had a similar issue until I uninstalled / reverted a driver update (synaptic touchpad), this however is not possible with this new laptop as the only driver (Elan Precision Touchpad Filter) doesn't have any prior updates to revert to.
The touchpad driver I have is already updated (Elan Precision Touchpad Filter Driver). The touchpad settings page in the control panel doesn't have broad enough settings to account for all of the issues I'm having which I think is a design flaw. The mouse properties page strangely enough does not affect the mouse speed of the touchpad (the hardware tab of the mouse properties page does not include the touchpad driver).
I've been trying to find a solution for this issue and stumbled upon an article about a "Legacy Touchpad". I was wondering if I it would be possible for me to activate this legacy touchpad mode as it seems like it would help my case. If there is a method to make it happen, I would be fine with receiving the bare minimum amount of functions out of this trackpad as my old laptop's touchpad used to do just that.

As you mentioned the cursor freezes when you are playing games, the main issue here is with the in-game mouse sensitivity, Generally, when it is set too high, the cursor starts jittering or even freezing. It has nothing to do with your touchpad or its drivers.
To confirm that, you can use a USB or wireless mouse and see if the freezing happens. Also, you can check your touchpad with the click speed test tool and check it clicks normally outside the game.
Most games have the mouse sensitivity option in their settings menu where you can adjust it. Generally, it's a gear icon somewhere in the game UI. You didn't mention the game name, otherwise, I could have guided you with the exact steps.

Talking about the mouse acceleration, there are two ways to fix that. The first one is to set it in the game by going into the control settings. The other way is to use Windows mouse settings which you can access from Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers and uncheck the 'Enhance Pointer Precision'. It is highly recommended to turn it off if your game has its own mouse acceleration option.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post, unfortunately there is still mouse acceleration on the touchpad of this laptop. Changing the mouse properties does little to affect the actual movement of the touchpad's mouse. While changing the mouse speed in the mouse properties page had little to no affect on the movement of the touchpad's mouse itself. On plug in mice however it would noticeably change the speed and not be prone to freezing after right clicking / left clicking. In response to the reply before this one, the issue persists outside of games for the mouse freezing. If I do multiple clicks using the touchpad on the desktop, the mouse would stutter in movement due to the freezing and needing to regain mouse speed.
