If your touchpad or mouse isn't working on your HP laptop, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Check Hardware Connections

Ensure that all cables are securely connected.

Step 2: Enable the Touchpad

  1. Press the Touchpad toggle key. This key usually has an icon resembling a touchpad with a line through it.
  2. Check for a small LED in the top left corner of the touchpad. Double-tap it to enable or disable the touchpad.

Step 3: Update or Reinstall Drivers

Update drivers:

  • Open the Device Manager by searching for it in the Start menu.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click on your touchpad driver and select Update driver.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Reinstall drivers:

  • In the Device Manager, right-click your touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Step 4: Check Touchpad Settings

  1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Go to Devices > Touchpad.
  3. Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
  4. Adjust the sensitivity and other settings as needed.

Step 5: Run HP Diagnostic Tools

  1. HP Support Assistant:
    • This utility can help you find and fix issues. Launch it from the Start menu or by searching for it.
    • Follow any recommendations provided by the tool.
