My HP Victus laptop not recognizing mouse and keyboard via USB. No issues with USB storage devices. Im getting Failure ID: MBV4HQ-COFCKX-MFPWWK-8D0D03.
Checked device manager and getting error Device descriptor request failed. One side USB port is recognizing sometimes after sleep or restart that will also stop. I tried reinstalling windows but didn’t work.

Hello,
Thanks for the detailed description — it helps narrow things down. The issue you're describing, especially with the Failure ID from HP diagnostics and "Device descriptor request failed" in Device Manager, points to a likely hardware fault on the USB controller, particularly related to input devices (HID) rather than storage.
Here's a breakdown of what’s likely happening and what you can do next
Faulty USB Controller Chip – Especially if only some USB devices (like storage) work but HID devices (mouse, keyboard) don’t, even after a fresh Windows install. CatMeowSounds
Partial power delivery or signal degradation on the USB line — explaining why it sometimes works after a sleep or restart.
Board-level hardware failure – The Failure ID you shared (MBV4HQ-COFCKX-MFPWWK-8D0D03) is generated by HP’s preboot diagnostics and usually indicates hardware problems, often with the system board or USB controller.
Power management or firmware issues, though this is less likely since a full reinstall didn’t help.
Best Regards
