I noticed that I cannot enable G Sync on this laptop, even though it uses an RTX 4050 card. I am using an Acer XV272U monitor, where I was previously able to enable G-Sync on my old laptop using a 1660Ti, however, this laptop does not show any option for G Sync.
My previous laptop used a minidisplayport to displayport cable in order to work with G Sync, however this laptop does not have that port. I have tried using USB C to displayport and I have tried using HDMI to HDMI, to no avail.
I have tried for months to get this to work. Please help, screenshot attached.

Hi @brownsugar458,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having a challenging time enabling G-Sync on your OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC with an RTX 4050. Here are some steps and checks to help resolve the issue.
Verify Monitor Compatibility
- Check G-Sync Compatibility: Ensure that your Acer XV272U monitor is G-Sync compatible. If it is not officially certified but supports FreeSync, you might still be able to use G-Sync in some cases.
- Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your monitor.
Check Connection Type
- USB-C to DisplayPort: Ensure that the USB-C to DisplayPort cable is of high quality and supports the necessary bandwidth for G-Sync (DP 1.2 or higher).
- HDMI Limitations: G-Sync usually requires DisplayPort connections. HDMI may not support G-Sync on some monitors.
Update Drivers and Software
- Graphics Drivers: Make sure you have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed. Go to the NVIDIA website or use the GeForce Experience software to update.
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Check for updates in the NVIDIA Control Panel or through GeForce Experience.
Configure NVIDIA Control Panel
- Enable G-Sync: Open NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Display > Set up G-SYNC.
- Ensure that the box for Enable G-SYNC, G-SYNC Compatible is checked.
- Select Enable for full screen mode or Enable for windowed and full screen mode based on your preference.
- Under Select the display you would like to change, choose your monitor.
Check Monitor Settings
- On-Screen Menu: Access the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) menu and check if G-Sync/FreeSync is enabled. Some monitors require you to enable FreeSync for G-Sync to work.
Verify Cable Connection
- Ensure Secure Connection: Confirm that the cable connections are secure and properly seated.
- Test with Different Cable: If possible, test with another USB-C to DisplayPort cable to rule out a faulty cable.

Windows Settings
- Display Settings: Go to Settings > System > Display, and ensure that your monitor is set as the primary display if applicable.
Check for Conflicts
- Background Applications: Close any applications that might interfere with the NVIDIA Control Panel or G-Sync settings.
BIOS and Firmware Updates
- Laptop BIOS: Check for any BIOS updates for your OMEN laptop that might address compatibility or performance issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
