Laptop :
Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000
Configuration :
Bios Version :
- F.23 Rev.A
Windows Specification:
With the new bios I am unable to undervolt my cpu at all from Throttlestop or IntelXTU. This was not an issue with last years BIOS I had. I searched in the BIOS for any potential setting that might cause it but no luck.
How can install a specific version of bios. Downgrading does not work for me at all as it just installs the latest bios anyways and the version does not change what so ever.
I want to undervolt.
Omen Hub does have undervolting but it does not undervolt P-cores and C-cores properly and causes a lot of instablitity.

Hi @JayOnTheRadio ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to undervolting and BIOS downgrading on modern systems like the Victus by HP can be challenging due to security features and updates that lock certain settings. Here's how you can address your issue:
Steps to Resolve
1. Check if BIOS Downgrade is Allowed
- Download the Desired BIOS Version:
- Go to HP’s support website and search for your laptop model.
- Locate an older BIOS version that supports undervolting (e.g., from last year).
- Force Install Older BIOS:
- Create a USB flash drive with the older BIOS using HP's BIOS recovery tool.
- During startup, press Esc repeatedly to enter the boot menu, then select BIOS Recovery.
- Check if the system allows installing the older version.
- Important: If rollback protection is active, the downgrade won't work. Do not force the process, as it could brick your system.
2. Enable Undervolting Using ThrottleStop
If the BIOS doesn’t allow downgrades, you can still try enabling undervolting via software:
- ThrottleStop Configuration:
- Open ThrottleStop, and navigate to the "FIVR" menu.
- Check if undervolting options are greyed out. If so, the feature is locked by the BIOS.
- If unlocked, set negative voltage offsets for the CPU Core, Cache, and potentially iGPU.
3. Use Omen Gaming Hub Tweaks Cautiously
- While Omen Gaming Hub undervolting is unstable, ensure you're on the latest version of the software.
- Test smaller undervolt increments for P-cores and E-cores separately.
4. Community and Advanced Methods
- BIOS Modding: Experienced users sometimes modify the BIOS to unlock undervolting. However, this is risky and voids the warranty.
- Custom Kernel or Firmware: Consider using a tool like GRUB to modify MSR (Model-Specific Register) values during boot. This requires expertise.
5. Alternative Cooling/Performance Solutions
If undervolting remains locked:
- Use high-quality thermal paste or liquid metal for repasting the CPU.
- Optimize airflow in the laptop by ensuring clean fans and proper ventilation.
- Lower power limits (PL1 and PL2) using Intel XTU or ThrottleStop to manage thermals without undervolting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
