Microsoft Windows 11

Hi - I have a Victus HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0xxx and was wondering if it's possible for me to upgrade the ram? I have the 8 gb one but I'm not sure how many Ram slots I have? I heard I have two but am not sure. And if so what RAM size would I need to buy? An additional 8 to hit 16? Or do I get a 16 gb RAM? Sorry fairly new to this.

You're very welcome.

You would have to run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below to find the memory manufacturer and part number because HP uses memory from several different manufacturers depending on what they have on hand at the time.

Regardless of what memory HP installed, I recommend you purchase a compatible Crucial 8 GB memory chip which should work with the existing one installed by HP.

If you find the memory is made by Micron, Crucial is the retail division of Micron.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

According to the manual, your notebook has two memory slots and can support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

If you want to install more memory than what HP indicates is the max, you can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thanks Paul. Would you happen to know the brand of the RAM that I have? Or does that not matter? Just want to make sure I purchase the right additional 8gb RAM beforehand.
