OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 (509W1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Omen 17-ck2012nt laptop, which currently has a 1TB SSD installed. Since the storage is now full, I’m planning to upgrade. I’m considering installing a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB with heatsink SSD, but I’m not entirely sure about compatibility and potential performance limitations. Will this SSD be fully compatible with my system, and will I be able to achieve its maximum read and write speeds on this laptop?

Additionally, I’ve come across information about possible storage capacity limits. Is there a maximum supported capacity per SSD slot, or for the total combined storage across both M.2 slots? For example, if I install a 2TB SSD alongside my existing 1TB SSD, could that exceed a system-wide storage limit and affect performance or stability?

I also have a few additional concerns:

  • Does the M.2 slot on my laptop fully support PCIe Gen 4x4 speeds to maximize the performance of the Samsung 990 Pro?
  • Since the Samsung 990 Pro model I’m considering has a heatsink, is there any chance the thickness could interfere with fitting the SSD properly into the slot?
  • Are there any thermal limitations or risks of throttling under load that I should be aware of with this model on my laptop?
  • Would I need to update the BIOS or firmware to ensure full compatibility and stability with this SSD upgrade?
  • Finally, does the system support full power delivery for high-performance SSDs like this one, or could there be power limitations that reduce its performance?
