OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 (70W99AV)

I'm a little confused about the warranty system at HP.

My laptop is designed in such a way that it can accommodate another SSD slot for storage expansion. This feature is one of the reasons that I purchased this laptop for. To access the SSD slot I have to take off the back cover panel.

Does this void the warranty? And if so, WHY?

Why should I not be able to use the full feature set of the laptop? Why am I being forced to use only the hard drive space provided?

If I can safely perform this upgrade without damaging the system in anyway, how is it fair that I lose access to my warranty when all I've done is utilise a feature that, once again, I PAID FOR?!? Being punished for using the device correctly seems very anti-consumer to me.

Clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gerald.C

Hi,

Upgrading the RAM and or SSD in the machine is an accepted practice and will not void the warranty as long as you do not break anything in the process.

Service manual

max RAM 64GB even if the service manual mentions 32GB

Hope it helps,

Hi @Gerald_C ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your concerns regarding the warranty and upgrading of your laptop's storage. Typically, modifying or opening the laptop in a manner not prescribed by HP can indeed void the warranty. This is because any alterations to the original configuration can potentially lead to issues that may not be covered under the warranty.

I hope this helps.

Hello Gaya1239,

Thank you for your response.

You say that modifying or opening the laptop in a manner not prescribed by HP can indeed void the warranty. The point that I'm trying to make is that this upgrade shouldn't void the warranty because it is a feature offered by the laptop. The device comes with an unused SSD card slot for storage expansion. Why offer a feature that the user can't use without punishment? I am stuck with insufficient  hard drive space because of this issue.

By my understanding, the presence of this feature being offered and advertised means that it was intended to be used, and therefore, IS "prescribed by HP" and shouldn't void the warranty. If not, why sell the device on this merit?

Thanks,
