I installed the game Valorant and played with it on my new laptop. The next day the game wouldn't start anymore despite of the fact that I have restarted my laptop. What can be done? Thank you.

Hi @Yang2026,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I Understand that your concern, don’t worry I will help you with this .

  1. To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

To help figure out what’s going on, I’ll need a bit more information from you. When you have a moment, could you please tell me:
  2. What happens when you try to launch Valorant now?
(Does nothing happen, does it close immediately, or do you see an error message?)
  3. Do you see any error codes or warnings from Riot Vanguard or Windows?
  4. Which version of Windows are you using? (Windows 10 or Windows 11)
  5. What is the exact HP laptop model?
  6. Did Windows install updates or restart automatically overnight?
  7. Is the Riot Vanguard icon visible in the system tray after you log in?

These details will help determine whether this is related to Windows updates, system security settings, or Riot Vanguard not starting properly.Once you share a bit more information, I’ll be able to guide you through the most effective next steps to get the game running again.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Here are my answers:

  • What happens when you try to launch Valorant now?
(Does nothing happen, does it close immediately, or do you see an error message?) - BASCIALLY NOTHING HAPPENS.
  • Do you see any error codes or warnings from Riot Vanguard or Windows? - NON
  • Which version of Windows are you using? (Windows 10 or Windows 11) - WINDOWS 11

  • What is the exact HP laptop model? -

    Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fb3459nz

    BP9R4EA#UUZ

  • Did Windows install updates or restart automatically overnight? - IT IS A BRAND NEW LAPTOP THAT I AM USING ON THE FIRST DAY. SO NO UPDATES, BUT I DID UNINSTALL THE GAME AND RESTART THE LAPLOP SEVERAL TIMES. SOMETIMES THE GAME WILL LAUNCH BUT SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT.
  • Is the Riot Vanguard icon visible in the system tray after you log in? - YESThank you.
  • Best,
  • Rui

Hi @Yang2026,

Thanks for your response.

Try the below steps to fix this issue.

1. Restart Riot Vanguard manually

Even if the icon is visible, it may not be running correctly.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  2. Go to Processes
  3. Look for VGC or Riot Vanguard
  4. Right‑click → End Task
  5. Restart your laptop
  6. Try launching Valorant again

This alone fixes the issue for many players.

2. Make sure Vanguard is actually running as a service

Sometimes the service loads inconsistently on new systems.

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Find vgc
  4. Make sure it is:
  • Running
  • Startup type: Automatic

If it’s stopped, right‑click → Start.

3. Reinstall Riot Vanguard (this is safe and often necessary)

Since the laptop is brand new, Vanguard may not have installed its kernel‑level driver properly.

  1. Open Add or Remove Programs
  2. Uninstall Riot Vanguard
  3. Restart your laptop
  4. Launch Valorant — it will reinstall Vanguard automatically

This is one of the most reliable fixes.

4. Run Valorant as Administrator

Right‑click the Valorant shortcut → Run as administrator
This helps if Windows is blocking Vanguard from initializing.

I hope this helps.
