Hi, I’m having trouble with the built-in camera on my HP Victus 15. It was working a few months ago, but now it’s completely missing in Windows. Here’s what I’ve tried and observed:

  • System Board Test: Camera passed in the f2 diagnostics page

  • BIOS/UEFI: No camera option appears (but system board test passes).

  • Device Manager: Camera does not appear at all, even with the show hidden devices turned on

  • Windows Privacy Settings: Camera access is enabled.

my model is 15-fa1022nl

Hi @TrevorPhell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Have you ever connected an external webcam, and if so, does that show up correctly in Device Manager?
  • When you run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2), does the camera test actually activate the webcam image, or does it only report “passed”?

Suggested Troubleshooting Steps

  • Check HP Support Assistant: Open HP Support Assistant and run a full update check. Sometimes camera drivers are pushed through HP rather than Windows Update.
  • Enable hidden devices in Device Manager: You’ve already checked hidden devices, but also try Action → Scan for hardware changes to see if Windows detects the camera.
  • Windows Camera Driver reinstall: Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps and uninstall any “HP Camera” or “Windows Camera” driver package, then restart. Windows should attempt to reinstall automatically.
  • BIOS reset: Even though the BIOS doesn’t list the camera, try resetting BIOS to default settings (F10 during startup → Restore Defaults).
  • Check Windows Services: Press Win + R, type services.msc, and ensure “Windows Camera Frame Server” is running.
  • Test in Safe Mode: Boot into Safe Mode and check if the camera appears in Device Manager. This helps rule out third-party software conflicts.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for trying to help but nothing has worked
I've tried looking for the camera even in safe mode but it still doesn't show up.

Let me try resetting my laptop nowtest.jpg

Hi @TrevorPhell,

Thanks for your response. It looks like you’re still having issue with the camera.

But since you have mentioned you will reset the PC. Kindly ensure data is backed up before resetting the PC.

Kindly keep us posted once the reset is complete and check if the Camera is working.

Best regards,

Deep_World
