In my laptop specification my usb-c can support display 1.4. Is there any chance that i buy usb-c to hdmi and output video directly from my Nvidia Mx450 decrete gpu?

Hello @lzx ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

No — a simple USB-C → HDMI adapter will not give you direct output from the NVIDIA MX450 on almost all laptops, even if USB-C supports DisplayPort 1.4.

To configure video output directly from the NVIDIA GPU on a compatible HP device, such as an HP EliteBook or HP ZBook with dedicated NVIDIA graphics, follow these steps:

Enable Direct Output from the NVIDIA GPU

  1. Access BIOS/UEFI Firmware Settings:

    • Restart your laptop and immediately press F10 or the respective key to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
    • Navigate to the Advanced or Graphics settings tab.
  2. Select the Preferred Graphics Processor:

    • Locate the option for switchable graphics or GPU mode. This option might be listed as "Graphics Device" or "Switchable Graphics".
    • Set the graphics option to Discrete or Dedicated GPU. This might be labeled as having the NVIDIA GPU as the primary or only active GPU.
  3. Save Changes and Exit:

    • Save the changes made in the BIOS/UEFI and exit. Your laptop will restart with the new settings.

Install/Update NVIDIA Drivers

  1. Install NVIDIA Graphics Drivers:

    • Make sure to have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed on your system.
    • Visit the official NVIDIA Driver Download page to download the drivers specific for your GPU model.
  2. Configure Graphics Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel:

    • Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • Go to Manage 3D Settings.
    • Under Global Settings, set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
    • Apply the changes.

Check Display Settings

  1. Connect External Displays:

    • Connect the external monitor or projector to your laptop.
    • Right-click on the desktop, select Display settings to configure display preferences.
  2. Set NVIDIA GPU for Specific Applications (if necessary):

    • Open NVIDIA Control Panel and go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.
    • Select the program you want to set, and choose the High-performance NVIDIA processor as the preferred graphics processor.

By following these steps, you can ensure that video output is routed directly through your NVIDIA GPU, enhancing performance especially during graphics-intensive tasks. If you encounter issues, consult HP support for device-specific assistance, as not all models may support direct output configurations depending on hardware configurations and establish power usage policies.. Hope this helps!
