OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xf0000 (758R3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Trying to get support as my HP Omen will not turn on. Before it turned off permanently, the battery was at 99 percent, this was before I even owned it for 360 days. Then the screen would flash on and off, the fans would ramp up to maximum and stay there. Finally, it powered down on its own and never came back.

I've had a Lenovo since 2017 that still runs fine, whereas this laptop barely lasted 1 year. It is quite disappointing.

@Chazlepine, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This sounds like a serious hardware issue, especially given that it happened within the first year of ownership. Here’s what you can do immediately:

🔧 Quick Checks You Can Try Before Repair

Just in case it’s a recoverable power issue:

Hard Reset (EC Reset)

  • Unplug everything including the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the charger (leave the battery built-in as is) and try powering on.

Check with External Display

  • If the fans and lights come on but no display appears, connect to an HDMI monitor or TV to test for display failure.

BIOS Recovery

  • Hold Win + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Keep holding Win + B for up to 30 seconds and see if BIOS recovery kicks in (you may hear beeping or see screen activity).

LED Light or Beep Codes

  • Watch for any blinking LEDs or beep sounds from the keyboard or power button area — these can indicate specific hardware faults.

🛠If It Still Doesn’t Power On

This is likely a motherboard, GPU, or power delivery failure, especially since:

  • The fan spun to full RPM before shutdown,
  • The screen was flickering (power/VRAM-related issue),
  • It won't power back on, even while plugged in.

Then, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.

I conducted the tests as mentioned in the response you provided. The screen stayed on in BIOS and HW/SW testing most of the time. Occasionally the screen backlight would turn off, but with a flashlight you could still read the text. I went back into Windows and tried to run a game to test; the fan ramped up and screen/keyboard/power button all turned off within seconds, and the laptop remained 'on' and logged in.  You literally cannot turn it off when it does this as the built-in keyboard becomes unresponsive. Plugging in an external keyboard allows functions to work on an external screen but not the built in one, which remains black. I will have to contact a local HP service center to drop this off. If my nearest HP repairer is Best Buy, what do I need to tell them when I bring it in?
