Recently, the W key has been having frequent issues regarding input and delay. It's not a very consistent issue, but it manifests more frequently in games as both a failure to read keypresses and a significant input delay. I am fairly certain it is a hardware issue. It seems to be only on the W key and I can't find any particular system setting or software that could be causing this issue. Before I take it in to get repaired, what fixes could I do on my own?

As I was typing this, the keycap broke and no longer stays in place. Further testing has also revealed an input problem on the key switch independent of the cap.

It sounds like the W key on your keyboard is experiencing a clear hardware failure, especially now that the keycap has broken and the switch itself is showing input problems. Since the issue persists even without the keycap and causes both missed presses and input delay, this points to a failing or worn-out switch rather than a software or system problem. On your own, you could try a few things: first, carefully remove any remaining debris around the switch using compressed air or a soft brush, as dust or dirt can sometimes interfere with the mechanism. If the switch is mechanical and soldered,   EquifaxCredit login you could replace the switch entirely if you have the tools and experience, or if it’s a hot-swappable board, you can simply swap it out. If it’s a membrane keyboard, unfortunately, repair options are limited, and the most reliable solution would be to replace the keyboard or take it to a professional repair service. In the meantime, using an alternative key mapping for movement in games or an external keyboard could help avoid frustration.
