HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U9E8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Since I bought this laptop this notification has been popping up, I didn't pay any attention to it since it was just working fine. Recently I downloaded GTA5, every time I play it while plugged in the FPS drops but when I play it using only my battery it's just fine. I've done many steps I found on the internet to solve this however, none worked. I'm starting to think it's because of my adaptor.

Can you help me fix this FPS drop?

What watts is best for my laptop?

It's quite common for laptops to experience performance drops when plugged in, especially during demanding tasks like gaming. This can often be attributed to power management settings or thermal throttling.

Potential Solutions:

  1. Power Plan Settings:

    • High-Performance Mode: Switch to this mode to prioritize performance over battery life.
    • Customize Power Plan: Manually adjust settings like processor power management and cooling policy to favor performance.

  2. Thermal Throttling:

    • Clean the Vents: Ensure proper airflow by removing dust and debris.
    • Undervolting (Advanced): This technique can reduce CPU temperature, but requires technical knowledge and caution.
    • Laptop Cooling Pad: Using a cooling pad can help dissipate heat.

  3. Driver Updates:

    • GPU Drivers: Update your graphics card drivers to the latest version.
    • Chipset Drivers: Keep your chipset drivers up-to-date.
  4. Background Applications:

    • Close Unnecessary Programs: Limit background processes to allocate more resources to your game.
  5. Game Settings:

    • Lower Graphics Settings: Reduce visual settings to improve performance.
    • Limit FPS: Capping your frame rate can sometimes stabilize performance.

Regarding the Power Adapter:

While a faulty power adapter can contribute to performance issues, it's less likely to cause FPS drops specifically when plugged in. The wattage of your adapter should match the original specification provided by HP.

Additional Tips:

  • Monitor Temperatures: Use tools like HWMonitor to keep track of CPU and GPU temperatures.
  • Update BIOS: Check for BIOS updates from HP's support website.
  • Consult HP Support: If the above solutions don't resolve the issue, contact HP support for further assistance.

Remember:

  • Back Up Your Data: Before making significant changes to your system, it's always a good idea to back up your important data.

By following these steps and troubleshooting techniques, you should be able to improve the performance of your HP Pavilion laptop and address the FPS drop issue.
