I want to add SSD to my laptop HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0140tx.
What is the supported generation of M.2 NVME SSD for this laptop.
From what I have checked on Micron's website up to Gen 3 of M.2 NVME SSD is supported.
I have not got any documents from HP that say this is the supported generation.
Can anyone confirm ?

You are correct.
Your PC's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.
A Gen 4.0 SSD should work fine but it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.
You have to look up your PC's processor specs on the Intel website to get the PCIe version.
Intel® Core™ i5-8300H Processor
