Hi, I have had my Victus for about a month now, I noticed when starting a game up that goes to a black screen that the bottom left corner of the screen has a white/green glow. I thought it was the game, but have noticed it when starting up the laptop now as well.

I have read that this could be "IPS Glow" or "Back Bleed", is it something I need to contact HP about and get repaired or is this normal? It only seem to be in this bottom left corner.

Thanks.

Hi @Remboi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry hear that you are experiencing a display issue with your Victus laptop. A white or green glow in the corner of the screen, especially noticeable on a black background, may be due to several reasons like backlight bleeding, dead pixels, or physical damage.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the official HP Support website and checking for any driver updates for your specific model.
  • Install any available updates and restart your laptop to see if the issue persists.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the screen for any visible damage or pressure marks. If there is physical damage, the screen may need to be repaired or replaced.

Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  • HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostic tools. You can run these tools by restarting your laptop and entering the diagnostics mode during boot-up (usually accessible via the F2 key or similar).

Also I would request you to please share me the Picture of the PC if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi Pallipurath,

Thanks for taking a look at this. As part of the troubleshooting I had upgraded to the latest graphics driver and run the HP diagnostics tool, which showed no issues.

There is no physical damage that I can see. This glow has been present since I purchased the laptop. I have attached a photo, but I am not sure it shows up well (it is difficult to photograph). Depending on the angle I am looking at it, it gets worse or better.

From my research it could be back bleeding? My question is, would it be OK to leave as is or is it possible it might get worse? Or is the best course of action to send it back for a repair?

Thanks,

You are Welcome @Remboi

Thank you for sharing the photo. I can clearly see the bottom-left corner of the display showing a noticeable bright glow against a dark background, which matches your description. This type of glow is often associated with backlight bleed or IPS glow, and it tends to be more visible on black screens or when viewing from certain angles.

You’ve already done a great job by:

  • Updating the graphics driver.
  • Running HP diagnostics (which showed no issues).
  • Checking for physical damage.

Here are some steps and considerations to help you decide what to do next:

1. Check Under Different Conditions

  • View the screen in a well-lit room and then in a dark room.
  • If the glow is only visible in very dark conditions and doesn’t affect normal usage, it’s often considered within tolerance for IPS panels.

2. Adjust Brightness and Viewing Angle

  • Lowering the brightness can reduce the visibility of the glow.
  • IPS glow changes with viewing angle, so check if adjusting the screen tilt helps.

3. Run a Display Test

  • Use the built-in HP Display Test:
    • Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP Diagnostics.
    • Run the Display Test to confirm there are no pixel or color issues.

4. Firmware and Driver Updates

  • Ensure both BIOS and display drivers are up to date: HP Victus Drivers and Updates

5. Is It Normal or Will It Get Worse?

  • IPS glow and minor backlight bleed are common in edge-lit displays and usually do not worsen significantly unless there is physical stress on the panel.
  • If the glow is distracting during normal use or gaming, the best option is to have the screen inspected.
