Every single day this driver, the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver is available for update through the HP Support Assistant in my notebook, and every time I update the darn thing, why does it never stop? ... And yes! I download and update every time.

If you are constantly receiving updates for the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver on your HP Notebook and it doesn't seem to stop, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to address it.

 

Check for Legitimate Updates: Ensure that the updates you are receiving are not legitimate. The Intel MEI driver is an important component of your computer, and updates are periodically released to address security vulnerabilities and improve system stability. It's essential to keep it up to date.

Manual Update: Instead of relying solely on the HP Support Assistant, try manually updating the MEI driver. You can go to the HP support website, search for your specific model, and download the latest MEI driver from there. Sometimes, using the HP website to get drivers can be more reliable.

 

Uninstall and Reinstall: If repeated updates persist, you can try uninstalling the existing MEI driver from the Windows Device Manager and then installing the latest version manually. Here's how you can do it:

 

  • a. Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager." 
  • b. Expand the "System devices" category. 
  • c. Find the "Intel Management Engine Interface" and right-click on it. 
  • d. Select "Uninstall device" and check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" if available. 
  • e. After uninstalling, restart your computer. 
  • f. Download the latest MEI driver from HP's website or Intel's website and install it.

 

Disable Automatic Updates (Not Recommended): If you're sure that the updates are unnecessary and annoying, you can temporarily disable automatic driver updates in Windows. However, this is not recommended for security and stability reasons:

 

  • a. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update." 
  • b. Click on "Advanced options." 
  • c. Under "Driver updates," select "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates."

 

Please exercise caution when disabling automatic updates, as they are crucial for keeping your system secure and stable. 

 

Remember that the Intel MEI driver is important for system functionality and security, so it's generally a good practice to keep it updated. However, the constant update notifications may be due to a glitch, and the steps mentioned above should help you address this issue.
