I don't believe that HP would recommend using an adapter to use or charge your laptop. The third prong in an outlet is a ground. Therefore, this means that using the adapter is by-passing a safty feature. You can check the main power box to see if it is grounded. If it is you could change the outlet to one with three prongs, but ONLY if there is a ground. Otherwise, this is still unsafe.
