Instead of gaming laptops now there is a feature that limits when the battery is 100% it will disconnect, why when I want to replace the thermal paste and I see my battery is bloated even though I always unplug it when finished using it. Is there a solution so that it doesn't happen again?

@violett1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the battery issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It's concerning to hear that your battery is bloated despite unplugging it when not in use. Battery bloating is often caused by excessive heat, which can occur even if you unplug the laptop. Here are some steps you can take to prevent this from happening again:

Preventive Measures to Reduce Heat and Protect Your Battery

1. Ensure Proper Ventilation

  • Keep the laptop on a hard, flat surface (avoid beds, couches, or laps).
  • Provide at least 6 inches (15.25 cm) of clearance around vents.
  • If you use the laptop at high altitudes (above 1500m/5000ft), take extra care to keep it cool.

2. Clean the Vents and Fans Regularly

  • Turn off the laptop and unplug the power cord.
  • Use canned air to remove dust from the vents.
  • Avoid using the laptop in dusty environments.

3. Optimize System Performance to Reduce Heat

  • Close unnecessary apps and browser tabs.
  • Lower game resolution and graphics settings if the laptop gets too warm.
  • Manage startup apps in Task Manager to reduce load on the system.

4. Use HP Cooling Features (If Available)

  • HP CoolSense: Adjusts performance and fan speed to prevent overheating.
    • Search for "HP CoolSense" in Windows and turn it On.
  • HP Command Center: Set the Cool Mode under Thermal Profile to help regulate temperature.

5. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for BIOS and driver updates.
  • Keeping your system updated ensures better fan control and thermal management.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the fans are making a loud noise or not functioning properly, they might need servicing.
  • You can run hardware diagnostics using HP's built-in tools.

Feel free to reach out for anything!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
