@OskarsS, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Omen 17 suddenly shows a black screen, especially after a hard reset. Let's walk through some steps to help you get your display back.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:
Perform a Hard Reset Again
Sometimes the first reset doesn’t fully clear the hardware state.
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Disconnect all external devices (USBs, HDMI, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try powering on.
Try External Display Again
Reconnect to your TV or monitor via HDMI:
- Power on the laptop and immediately press Windows + P multiple times to cycle through display modes (Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only).
- Wait a few seconds between each press to see if the external display activates.
BIOS Recovery (Blind BIOS Reset)
If the screen is black even during boot, try a BIOS recovery:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
- If successful, you may hear beeps and the BIOS recovery screen should appear.
Reset CMOS (if accessible)
If you're comfortable opening the back panel:
- Disconnect the battery (if removable).
- Locate and remove the CMOS battery for 5 minutes.
- Reinsert it and try booting again.
Only attempt this if you're experienced with laptop internals or have support.
Check for POST (Power-On Self-Test)
- Power on the laptop and listen for beeps or fan behavior.
- If there are no beeps and the fan runs continuously, it could indicate a hardware issue (GPU, motherboard, or display cable).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
