my built in camera suddenly is glitching/flickering and I noticed that whenever I try to hover or cover the camera with my thumb, it stops or there are minimal glitching, however, as soon as I remove my thumb or thing from covering the camera, it starts to flicker/glitch very bad. I tried to reset, uninstall, and even contacted customer service from windows, but they couldnt fix and said it's most likely because of hardware issue. Please help. I did not abuse nor did anything for it to suddenly happen

Hi @kaichiiiii,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the built-in camera on your HP Victus 15 laptop flickers or glitches when exposed to certain colors or light, and covering it briefly seems to alleviate the issue. Given that you've already reset and uninstalled the drivers, and contacted Windows support without resolution, it does seem like it could be a hardware-related problem.
Here are a few steps to further diagnose or mitigate the issue.
Test the Camera in Different Environments
- Try using your camera in different lighting conditions to see if the flickering is more pronounced under certain types of light (e.g., fluorescent vs. natural light). This can help rule out whether it's an environmental factor.
Check for Camera Driver or Firmware Updates
- Although you’ve uninstalled and reset the camera drivers, it’s worth checking the HP support page for any updated drivers or firmware for your specific HP Victus 15 model.
- You can also visit the Device Manager, right-click on your camera device, and select Update Driver to see if there's an update available.
Check the Camera Settings
- Go to the Camera app or another application that uses the camera (e.g., Zoom, Skype) and check if there are settings like auto exposure, white balance, or auto focus that might be causing the flickering.
- Sometimes, disabling automatic features or adjusting them manually can help reduce flickering.
Hardware Diagnostics
- HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics tools. You can run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to check if the camera is functioning properly at the hardware level.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc when the HP logo appears, then press F2 to open the diagnostics menu. From there, you can run tests on the camera.
- If the diagnostics tool reports issues with the camera, it could confirm a hardware failure.
Possible Interference
- Sometimes, interference from other nearby hardware (like a plugged-in USB device or an external monitor) can cause glitches in a laptop camera. Try using the camera with minimal peripherals connected to see if the issue persists.
External Camera as a Temporary Solution
- If the built-in camera is unusable and it’s critical for you to use a webcam, you could temporarily use an external USB webcam to bypass the issue while you resolve the hardware problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
