Microsoft Windows 11

I have a problem that appeared after updating the drivers. The main graphics of my laptop(hp Victus 15 with r5 8645 and RTX 4050), which is RTX 4050, turns off/sleeps or whatever it used to do in light tasks, but now it doesn't and it is on at all times, even with 0% usage. While it is consuming battery.gpu clock and vram clock suddenly go up from 0 and then suddenly drop to zero again in millisecond .After this, the drivers were updated again, but the problem remains. Please provide a solution.

Try turning off the NVIDIA overlay, HP Gaming Hub overlay, or any similar overlay features from their settings, then restart your laptop and check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem remains, please pause Windows Updates, boot into Safe Mode, and use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to uninstall both the NVIDIA and AMD graphics drivers one by one. After that, download and install the latest AMD and NVIDIA VGA drivers from the official HP support page for your laptop model, install the AMD driver first, followed by the NVIDIA driver. Keep Windows Updates paused while testing these drivers for some time, and let me know if you still experience the issue.

Check which app using Dgpu:

  1. Right‑click desktop → NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. In the top menu, click Desktop.
  3. Enable Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area.
  4. A small GPU icon appears in the system tray (bottom‑right).
  5. Click that icon → it lists all processes currently using the NVIDIA GPU. Post image here so I can check

If you don’t see the icon, make sure hidden tray icons are shown:
Right‑click taskbar → Taskbar settings → Other system tray icons → turn on NVIDIA GPU Activity.

For Nvidia app, there should be similar path, find it and check and post image here

If I’m not mistaken, NVIDIA is fully replaced the classic NVIDIA Control Panel with the new NVIDIA App. Are you currently using the new NVIDIA driver, or do you still have the older Control Panel? Could you let me know which version of the NVIDIA Control Panel you have installed? How did you update nvidia driver previously?

HP Recommended

I have both actually and updated with nvidia app. nvidia control panel version is 8.1.969.0

driver version is 616.56

Click the Start button, select the Power icon, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking Restart. Keep holding Shift until your PC restarts and displays the blue options screen. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings, then click Restart. Once the computer reboots, press 4 or F4 to start in basic Safe Mode, or 5 or F5 to start Safe Mode with Networking.
