@MTben,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Hello! I understand your concern about replacing the fan in your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2001nk. Let’s address your questions step by step:

1. Why Does One Fan Have 6 Pins?

  • It’s not uncommon for laptops in the same series to have slightly different components depending on configuration or production batch.
  • The 6-pin fan could be designed for specific models with additional functionality (e.g., more precise fan control or dual fan setups).
  • Unfortunately, the standard L77560-001 part is usually a 4-pin fan, so finding a direct 6-pin replacement might be challenging:

2. Replacement Options for the 6-Pin Fan:

If you can’t find a 6-pin fan with the exact part number, here are some suggestions:

  • Contact HP Support: They can confirm the exact replacement part for your specific configuration and help source the correct 6-pin fan.
  • Search by Model and Pin Configuration: Look for replacement fans specifically listed for the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2001nk with a 6-pin connector. You may need to broaden your search to include other compatible part numbers.
  • Check the Existing Fan for Branding or Alternate Numbers: Sometimes, fans have additional part numbers or manufacturer labels that can help identify the correct replacement.

3. Do You Need to Change Anything Else?

  • For most fan replacements, it’s a direct swap:
    • Remove the old fan.
    • Install the new fan, ensuring the connector is securely attached.
  • However, if your new fan has a different pin configuration (e.g., 4 pins vs. 6 pins), it may not be compatible without additional modifications, such as a custom adapter or firmware tweaks. Stick to an exact match to avoid potential issues.

4. How to Replace the Fan:

If you’ve sourced the correct replacement:

  1. Prepare Tools: You’ll need a small Phillips-head screwdriver and thermal paste (if disassembling the heatsink).
  2. Disassemble the Laptop:
    • Follow the service manual or an online tutorial for your model.
    • Disconnect the battery for safety.
  3. Replace the Fan:
    • Unscrew and disconnect the noisy fan.
    • Install the new fan in its place.
  4. Reassemble:
    • Ensure all screws and connectors are secure.
    • Test the system before fully closing it.

5. Other Considerations:

  • If the fan is part of a heatsink assembly, you may need to replace the entire assembly, not just the fan.
  • If sourcing the fan proves difficult, an authorized HP repair center can provide professional assistance.

Let me know if you need further help finding the exact fan or guidance on replacing it!

Kind Regards,
