Hi @26MEL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems that your GPU is not being properly utilized while gaming or running demanding applications. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue.
Check Power Settings:
- Make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source. Some laptops limit GPU usage when running on battery to save power.
- Set your power plan to High Performance in the Windows settings. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and choose High Performance.
NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting it.
- Go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Under the Global Settings tab, ensure that Preferred graphics processor is set to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
Driver Update:
- Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your GPU. You can update your drivers using the GeForce Experience app or manually from the NVIDIA website.
Task Manager:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and go to the Performance tab.
- Check the GPU section to see if it's being utilized while running a game or stress test.
- If it still shows 0% utilization, there may be an issue with how the GPU is being accessed by the system.
Application-Specific Settings:
- Some applications may not be using the GPU properly. You can force a specific application to use the dedicated GPU via the NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Select the Program Settings tab.
- Choose the application (game or software) from the list and set it to use the High-performance NVIDIA processor.
BIOS Settings:
- If you have an Optimus-enabled system, make sure it's properly configured in the BIOS (if accessible). Look for any GPU-related settings that could impact performance.
Windows Update:
- Ensure your operating system is up to date, as certain updates can improve hardware utilization.
Reinstall GPU Drivers:
- If the problem persists, consider performing a clean installation of the GPU drivers via GeForce Experience or by using a tool like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely remove previous driver versions before reinstalling the latest one.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
