Hi @AK4203,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Victus 15 gaming laptop is crashing while playing games, especially due to GPU-related issues, here are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Ensure you have the latest GPU drivers for your laptop's graphics card. For an NVIDIA or AMD GPU, visit the NVIDIA driver download page or AMD support page.
  • Use HP Support Assistant or check Device Manager for driver updates. You can also update through GeForce Experience (for NVIDIA GPUs) or Radeon Software (for AMD).

Monitor GPU Temperature

  • Overheating can cause crashes. Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor GPU temperatures.
  • Ensure your laptop is well-ventilated. Consider using a cooling pad if necessary.

Disable Background Applications

  • Background apps can consume system resources. Close unnecessary apps using Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to free up CPU, RAM, and GPU resources.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Antivirus software or other programs can conflict with game performance. Try disabling the antivirus temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.

Check for Power Settings

  • Make sure the laptop is set to High Performance mode in the power settings:
    1. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
    2. Set the power mode to High Performance.
  • If you have a battery-saving mode enabled, turn it off while gaming.

Perform a System Scan for Errors

  • Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk commands in Command Prompt (as Administrator) to check for and repair system file corruptions.

Reinstall Game and DirectX

  • The issue could be with the game itself. Try reinstalling the game and updating DirectX and other related APIs like Visual C++ Redistributable packages.

Update BIOS/Firmware

  • Outdated BIOS/firmware can also cause compatibility issues. Visit HP’s support website and check if there's a BIOS update available for your HP Victus 15.

Lower Graphics Settings

  • In-game, reduce the graphics settings (e.g., texture quality, shadows, anti-aliasing) to lower levels. This can reduce the load on the GPU and prevent crashes.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes a Windows update can fix GPU-related issues.

Test with Other Games

  • Try playing other games or benchmarks to check if the crashes are specific to one game or a general GPU issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
