Hi @usuebvujdk,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It sounds like your HP Victus laptop with Ryzen 5 and RTX 2050 is experiencing an issue with one of the cooling fans not functioning correctly. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
Troubleshooting Steps
Check Fan Settings in BIOS/UEFI:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete during startup).
- Look for any fan control settings and ensure both fans are enabled and set to the appropriate performance mode.
Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your model. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware control issues.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your GPU and chipset. You can download the latest drivers from the NVIDIA and AMD websites, respectively.
Check HP Command Center:
- If your laptop comes with HP Command Center or similar software, open it and check the thermal profile settings. Ensure that it’s set to performance mode and that both fans are configured to operate correctly.
Monitor Temperatures:
- Use software like HWMonitor, SpeedFan, or MSI Afterburner to monitor your laptop’s internal temperatures and fan speeds. This can help you verify if one of the fans is not spinning at all or if it’s just running at a lower speed.
Physical Inspection:
- Power down your laptop and unplug it. Carefully inspect the fan vents to ensure they are not blocked by dust or debris. If you’re comfortable doing so, you can open the laptop to check if the fans are properly connected to the motherboard and clean any dust buildup.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @usuebvujdk,
Here are the remaining steps.
Advanced Steps
Fan Replacement:
- If one fan is consistently not working, it might be faulty and need replacement. This usually involves opening the laptop, so if you're not comfortable with this, consider taking it to a professional repair service.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Sometimes third-party software can interfere with fan control. Try uninstalling any third-party fan control or system monitoring software to see if it resolves the issue.
Perform a System Reset:
- As a last resort, you can try performing a system reset or clean install of Windows to rule out any software issues causing the fan to not function properly.
Contact HP Phone Support
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware defect that needs attention. Contact phone support for further assistance. If your laptop is still under warranty, they may offer to repair or replace the faulty fan.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
