Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an  HP Omen 15.6 gaming laptop. I read that the laptop charges only when the lid is closed or when it is in sleep mode or powered off. But the battery does not indicate it is charging while the laptop is on. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Since how long are you facing this issue?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Let us uninstall the battery drivers and reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "batteries". Right click on ACPI battery drivers and select uninstall.
  • Close the device manager after uninstalling the ACPI battery drivers.
  • Restart the laptop. While restarting, the Windows operating system will reinstall the battery driver automatically.

Now, please connect the charger and check if the battery charges while the laptop is working. In case the battery continues to not charge then let us update the BIOS. The BIOS update can be searched for your laptop model via this link: www.hp.com/drivers

NOTE: The charger must be connected during the BIOS update. In your case, the battery must be fully charged before attempting the BIOS update. Because the battery does not charge while you're working on the laptop. The BIOS update must not get interrupted.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to keep me posted. All the best! 🙂

Hello I am facing the same trouble, I own a hp omen 15 model ax007tx and untill the pc is off or hibernate it charge normally but as soon as I turn it on, it stop charging the led become white from orange and it says "plugged but not charging" I tried to update the bios, to format the hard disk, even tried with a different operating system but the problem has not be solved.

Anyone knows what could I do?

UPDATE : I forgot to write that I run the battery check up with the bios check hardware functionality and that the battery is working and nothing wrong with it, I even tried to unistall the ACPI battery management driver and make the system reintall it but nothing worked.
