I opened the back panel to add more RAM but the laptop won't power up now. there isn't even a charging light when I plug it in. No power, no startup.
I've removed the battery and plugged the laptop in, I've tried it with the original RAM setup, no change. The charger is working as I tested it on another HP laptop and the light came on.
Please help.

@dyljohbar1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your HP laptop isn't receiving any power after adding RAM. Since there's no power light or startup, the issue could be related to a loose connection, incorrect RAM installation, or a potential short circuit. Here’s what you can try:
Check for Loose Connections:
- Since you opened the back panel, ensure all internal cables, including the battery connector and RAM slots, are securely seated.
Remove the RAM and Reseat It Properly:
- Try booting the laptop without the new RAM stick.
- Ensure the original RAM is properly seated in its slot.
- If you installed a non-compatible RAM stick, the laptop may fail to power on.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning it on.
Check for Short Circuit Issues:
- If the laptop stopped working immediately after opening it, there might be a short.
- Inspect the RAM slots and other components for any signs of damage or burnt areas.
- Remove any dust or debris that might have settled during RAM installation.
Test with an External Display (If Possible):
- Even though there's no power light, in rare cases, the display could be the issue.
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor and check for any response.
BIOS Reset (CMOS Battery Removal):
- If comfortable, try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then reinserting it. This can reset BIOS settings and potentially fix power-related issues.
Note:
- If none of these steps work, there may be a motherboard issue, a faulty power circuit, or a damaged component due to static discharge during RAM installation.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
