Hi @sieghild
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds frustrating! If your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 charges when powered off but stops charging when turned on, it could be due to a firmware issue, power settings, or a protective mode triggered by the charging port.
Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop.
- Unplug the charger and remove any external peripherals.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Plug in the charger and turn on the laptop.
2. Check the Charging Port and Adapter
- Inspect the charging port for dust or debris.
- Ensure the adapter barrel connector is fully inserted in one smooth motion—pausing while inserting can trigger Incompatible Mode, preventing charging.
- Try a different power outlet.
3. Update BIOS and Battery Drivers
- Visit HP’s support page and check for the latest BIOS update for your model.
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Batteries and Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, then select Update driver.
- Restart your laptop.
4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it back on and immediately press F2 repeatedly to open HP Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test.
- If any errors appear, note them down and check HP’s support site for solutions.
5. Check Windows Power Settings
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings for your current plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Battery and Plugged-in Settings, and ensure nothing is preventing charging.
