Omen 15-ce0xx (1KV80UA#ABA)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

i bought omen 15 laptop in 2018. i have keyboard problem now. My keyboard 'w' key is not working properly. when i press the 'w' key it responds occasionally, sometimes it won't even respond. when i use 'w' key along with Shift key it is working. few times when the 'w' key is pressed 'Z' alphabet is typed several times. I'm sure that the key is not physically stuck. This happens with the z key also sometimes.

i tried resetting the windows OS and recover it, uninstalling the keyboard drivers and reinstall it, tried BIOS Check, updated all keyboard drivers, updated windows, i ran a troubleshoot using hp PC hardware diagnostics, mostly i tried all possible ways to solve it. but nothing worked. Please give a solution for this issue.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to complete functional test of the keyboard and identify any problems with the hardware.

NOTE: Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.
  1. Download the latest version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

  2. In Windows, search for and right-click HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows, and then select Run as administrator.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows as an administrator

  3. Click Component Tests, click Input Devices, and then select the Keyboard Test.

    Running the Keyboard Test

  4. Click Run once to begin the test.

The test ends when you complete the tasks or after 3 minutes.

For more information about using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows, go to HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I installed windows update in January, from that month its not working properly. And I didn't do any hardware or software changes. After the Witchers 3 game play this problem has raised.

i tried your solution, running hp pc hardware diagnosis, it shows that w is not responding and instead of that z is responding. And z alphabet is typed several times when i press w key. now z key is not responding. and when i press backspace and esc , Z and W alphabets are typed many times.
