Hi @Omodi1

Welcome to HP Support Community!

Got it — thanks for clarifying. Your keyboard backlight on Windows 11 isn’t working. This usually happens due to either disabled settings, missing drivers, or BIOS configuration.

Let’s fix it step by step:

Step 1: Check Backlight Shortcut Keys

On most HP laptops:

F5 or F4 toggles the keyboard backlight.

Sometimes you need to press Fn + F5.

Look for a key with a keyboard/illumination icon.

Try pressing it a few times (in a dark room to confirm).

Step 2: Enable in HP Command Center / BIOS

Restart laptop → while booting, tap Esc → F10 (BIOS setup).

Under Advanced → Built-in Device Options, look for Keyboard Backlight Timeout.

Set it to Always On or adjust timeout.

Save & Exit.

Step 3: Update Drivers

Open Device Manager → expand Keyboards and System Devices.

Right-click → Update driver.

Also install the latest HP Hotkey Support driver and BIOS update from HP Support:
HP Software & Drivers.

Step 4: Windows Settings

Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Keyboard (if available).

On some models, there will be an option to enable/disable backlight.

Step 5: Hardware Test

Run HP Diagnostics: restart → press Esc → F2 → run Component Test → Keyboard.

If it shows errors, the backlight circuit or keyboard itself may be faulty.
