HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Laptop not detecting Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU. Noticed issue after my laptop was not turning on and shutdown before booting up when I tried numerous times, after hard resetting (holding power button for 1 minute) it turned on and gave me the CMOS 502 Error shown in the the attached picture.
After logging in i noticed my games were lagging and saw that my laptop was no longer using nvidia gpu but was using integrated graphics. NVIDIA GPU was showing in hidden devices in device manager and a tutorial prompted me to uninstall the rtx 3050 driver. upon reninstalling from nvidia website i was unable to get it to work as it was giving error "no Nvidia GPU detected".
Reset my laptop and reinstalled windows 11 in hopes it would work but it still didnt. I have updated and installed all updates from windows even installed chipset drivers from hp website.

Please provide me with a solution as i dont understand how to resolve this issue.
Thank you

Hi @Wasif6

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a pretty frustrating situation with your HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Laptop and the NVIDIA RTX 3050 GPU. Based on what you've described, the CMOS 502 error and the failure to detect the GPU may indicate an underlying issue related to either the hardware, BIOS, or system software.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. CMOS 502 Error & BIOS Settings:

  • The CMOS 502 error typically relates to a BIOS issue, often with the battery or BIOS settings. The error may have caused an issue with your laptop recognizing the NVIDIA GPU.
  • Reset BIOS Settings:
    1. Restart your laptop and press the F10 key (or the key designated for BIOS on your system).
    2. Once in the BIOS, navigate to the Restore Defaults or Reset to Default Settings option and save the changes. This will reset any misconfigured settings.
    3. Exit the BIOS and reboot the laptop.
  • If you still see the CMOS error, consider replacing the CMOS battery, as a failing battery can cause incorrect BIOS settings and hardware detection issues.

2. Check the NVIDIA GPU in Device Manager:

  • You mentioned the GPU shows as a hidden device in Device Manager, which is unusual. Follow these steps:
    1. Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
    2. Go to the Display Adapters section and check if the NVIDIA GPU is listed there.
    3. If it’s listed as a hidden device, right-click it and select Uninstall Device.
    4. After that, go to the Action menu at the top and click Scan for hardware changes to see if the GPU reappears.

Note: If you see the NVIDIA RTX 3050 listed in a “hidden” or “non-functional” state, it may indicate a hardware failure, or a BIOS/driver issue that needs fixing.

3. Reinstall NVIDIA Drivers:

  • Since you’ve already reinstalled the drivers without success, let’s make sure you’re doing a clean installation.
    1. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU):
      • Download and use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool to completely remove any leftover drivers that may be causing conflicts.
      • Follow the instructions on the DDU website to boot into Safe Mode and run the uninstaller.
      • Restart your laptop after uninstalling the drivers.
    2. Reinstall NVIDIA Drivers:
      • Go to the official NVIDIA website, download the latest drivers for your RTX 3050, and install them.
      • Choose the Clean Installation option when prompted to ensure that old configurations are wiped clean.

4. Check BIOS for GPU Settings:

  • Some laptops have settings in BIOS to disable the dedicated GPU or prioritize integrated graphics.
  • Restart your laptop, enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10 or Esc), and look for a setting related to the Discrete Graphics or GPU.
    • Ensure the NVIDIA GPU is enabled and the Integrated GPU is not set as the primary device (unless you want to use integrated graphics).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
