Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r1000 (8Z7S2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I updated my laptop today. After that, when I try to run or use the laptop, it shows a black screen with an error saying that the system is facing a problem, and then the laptop restarts automatically. This started happening right after the update."

Hi @JK8302,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r1000 started showing a black error screen and restarting automatically immediately after an update.

Please try a BIOS recovery first:

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Connect the original HP AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Windows + B keys.
  4. While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds.
  5. Release the Power button, but continue holding Windows + B for several seconds.
  6. If the HP BIOS Update screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions and do not turn off or disconnect power from the notebook during recovery.

Afterwards, please run the HP hardware diagnostics outside Windows:

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  4. Select System Tests.
  5. Run the Fast Test first.
  6. If the Fast Test passes, run the Extensive Test.
  7. Note any failure message and the complete 24-digit Failure ID.

While you are on the F2 Diagnostics screen, please check whether the same black screen, error, or automatic restart occurs. The diagnostics environment runs outside Windows, so this result will help establish whether the problem is limited to Windows or also occurs independently of the operating system.

Please reply with:

  • The exact error or stop code displayed before the restart.
  • Whether the BIOS recovery screen opened.
  • Whether the notebook remains stable in F2 Diagnostics.
  • The diagnostic result and 24-digit Failure ID, if generated.
  • Whether the recent update was a Windows, BIOS, or driver update, if known.
