Hi @ms278,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The “Multimedia Audio Controller” issue in Windows 11 usually means the audio driver is missing or not installed correctly. Here’s how to fix it on your HP PC:

1. Confirm the Issue

  • Open Device Manager (press Windows + X → Device Manager).
  • Look under Other devices or Sound, video and game controllers
    • If you see Multimedia Audio Controller with a yellow exclamation mark, the driver is missing.

2. Install the Correct Audio Driver

  • Go to Official HP® Support.
  • Enter your exact HP model (e.g., HP Pavilion, HP Envy, HP Omen).
  • Select Windows 11 as the OS.
  • Download and install:
    • Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver (most HP PCs use Realtek).
    • If your PC uses Bang & Olufsen or DTS, install those audio components too.

3. Use HP Support Assistant

4. Windows Update

  • Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
  • Install any optional updates under Advanced options → Optional updates (often includes audio drivers).

5. Restart and Test

  • After installation, restart your PC.
  • Test audio in Settings → System → Sound.

If Still Not Working

  • Uninstall the problematic device in Device Manager → Restart → Windows will attempt to reinstall automatically.
  • If it fails, manually install the downloaded HP driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
